Youth And Experience Shine For Eskmuthe On Day 3 of SkiffieWorlds 2025

Day 3 of the St Ayles Skiff World Championships featured just four races, but what it lacked in quantity it more than made up for in quality – with history made, records broken, and another day of unforgettable moments on Loch Ryan.

The day saw the debut of our Under 19 Men’s crew, marking the first time Eskmuthe has fielded a youth team at a World Championships. The young rowers powered their way to a brilliant 8th place in the world – a landmark result for the club.

While we didn’t have a full crew for the Under 19 Women’s race, Eskmuthe was still represented thanks to one of our junior rowers (Rhona) who stepped up to support a team from Firth of Clyde – helping them to a 7th place finish. This is a great example of the camaraderie that defines SkiffieWorlds, with clubs always very supportive of each other.

The 50+ Men then delivered one of the club’s most exciting races to date.

After qualifying for the final with a blistering heat time of 12:10.2 – the fastest-ever 2km time by an Eskmuthe crew at a World Championships – they held their nerve in a frantic final to finish 7th in the world from 63 boats. It was a superb performance that combined experience and endurance.

Meanwhile, the 50+ Women faced one of the most fiercely contested races of the day. Despite drawing a tough heat, they battled hard to finish 5th in their race and 31st overall out of 72 boats  – an effort that showed real grit and determination in one of the largest fields of the competition.

These performances have helped Eskmuthe climb to 15th place in the overall SkiffieWorlds leaderboard, continuing our momentum as we head into the final two days of racing.
