Eskmuthe Makes History with First-Ever World Championships Medal
Day 4 of SkiffieWorlds 2025 was one for the history books, as Eskmuthe Rowing Club secured its first-ever medal at a World Championships – a proud and unforgettable milestone for the club.
The highlight of the day came from the Under-19 Mixed crew, who delivered a sensational row to finish 2nd overall, winning silver and earning Eskmuthe a place on the podium for the first time at this level.
It was an emotional and proud moment for the club, after lots of hard work by cox Gaynor and the crew of Rhona, Logan, Adam and Lily. A large crowd cheered them on, watching the big screen beside Loch Ryan, with Eskmuthe rowing a brilliant race throughout and only just pipped to the line by repeat world champions Dundrum, serial winners of youth races at Skiffieworlds.
A special mention to our local clubs, Eastern and Newhaven, and our friends at Alnmouth, who were hugely supportive of our success.
In another very strong performance, the Open Mixed crew qualified for their final and finished 12th overall (from 66 boats), racing against some of the toughest and most experienced (and much younger!) crews in the competition.
The 60+ Mixed crew also took to the water in a competitive field, finishing 27th overall (also from 66 entries), adding to Eskmuthe’s consistent showing across the categories.
With just one day of racing to go, Eskmuthe now sits 13th in the medal table, climbing steadily through the rankings and showing what a small, determined community club can achieve on the world stage.
