Young Rowers Take On 100km Challenge
Two of Eskmuthe Rowing Club’s talented young members are taking on an epic 100km challenge to raise funds for the club.
Logan McLeod and Adam Wilson were members of the under-19 mixed crew, alongside Rhona Mylne and Lily Henderson, who won a silver medal at the coastal rowing world championships in July 2025.
Both now 19, and competing in senior categories, Logan and Adam want to help raise funds to pay for a branded club gazebo - and support the continued upkeep of the clubs two rowing boats (known as skiffs), Honesty and Steedie Falconer.
They will take on the 100km challenge on a rowing machine at Eskmuthe Rowing Club's boatshed at Fisherrow Harbour. The building is a hub of activity for the club, with a large workshop for repairing boats and making new equipment, as well as a social area, where events and meetings are held throughout the year.
The latest addition to the boatshed is a Concept 2 rowing machine, funded by the Aldi Scottish Sports Fund.
Logan and Adam are hoping to raise an initial target of £500 - by rowing the 100km in alternate 10km 'blocks' - with fellow club members encouraged to pay them a visit to lend support, and watch their suffering!
Adam said: "The rowing club has become a big part of our lives since Logan and I joined in early 2024, and the members have been really supportive in helping us to improve and to achieve success. Both of us are regulars in the boat and at the Wednesday evening rowing machine sessions in Edinburgh. We trained hard, on and off the water, for the world championships - and it paid off when we won the silver medal, which was so amazing."
Logan said: "In the boat, I find it easier to push myself hard because I don't want to let my teammates down. On the rowing machine, you really have to push yourself mentally - but when you do, it's such great exercise to build your stamina and fitness. We are both proud to help raise funds for such a brilliant, community-focused club.’
Simon Francis, Chair of Eskmuthe Rowing Club, said: "Adam and Logan are very active and popular members of the club - and it's brilliant that they are taking on this challenge. We will support them all the way - and help get them home afterwards if we need to!"

Eskmuthe Rowing Club has members ranging in age from 14 to 75, and rows all-year-round - although on-land training is crucial during periods of bad weather when rows are cancelled for safety reasons. Mr Francis said: “We’re really grateful to Aldi for their support in buying the rowing machine. It means members can keep up their training whatever the weather and continue improving fitness and technique. It’s already proving popular and will make a real difference as we prepare for competition in 2026 and beyond."
The Aldi Scottish Sports Fund supports local sports clubs across Scotland, helping people of all ages and abilities to take part in physical activity and develop their skills.
