Young Rowers Smash 100km Challenge And Raise £2,000 For Charity

Two young Eskmuthe Rowing Club members completed an ambitious 100km rowing machine challenge, finishing the gruelling distance in 7 hours, 49 minutes and 29 seconds while raising more than £2,000 for charity.

The challenge saw Adam Wilson and Logan McLeod, both 19, take on the full 100-kilometre distance on a single rowing machine at the club’s boatshed in Fisherrow, with supporters dropping by throughout the day to cheer them on.

Adam and Logan rowed 50km each, switching every 10km.  A second rowing machine meant club members could row alongside Logan and Adam to offer support and drive them on.

Eskmuthe members also baked cakes and gave tea and coffee to visitors in return for donations - which also continued to come in online.

Adam and Logan were part of the Eskmuthe under-19s crew, which took silver at last summer’s World Championships in Stranraer and are regulars at the club’s Wednesday night rowing machine training.

They kept up a good pace throughout the challenge and completed the distance well within their eight-hour target.

As well as raising vital funds, the event also created a fantastic atmosphere around the club, with members gathering by the harbour to encourage the rowers through the final metres.

Simon Francis, Eskmuthe club chair, said: “Taking on 100 kilometres on a rowing machine is a huge physical challenge, and completing it in under eight hours is a fantastic achievement.

“We’re incredibly proud of Adam and Logan for pushing through the whole distance and grateful to everyone who came down, cheered them on and donated. Raising more than £2,000 is an amazing result.

“The club would like to thank everyone who supported the challenge and helped make the day such a success.”

Donations are still open for anyone who would like to contribute. Funds will be used to buy equipment for the community club, which has almost 100 members aged between 14 and 75.
