New Rowers Hit The Water At Fisherrow Festival

Nineteen new rowers took to the water in the Eskmuthe skiffs as the club joined in the fun of the Fisherrow Harbour and Seafront Association's annual festival.

Across the harbour area, bands performed, craft stalls sold their wares and food and drink outlets kept people refreshed.

On the water, old sailing ships joined modern ribs in offering activities and Eskmuthe also staged an exhibition race.

Two crews made up of club members raced, representing the historic settlements of Musselburgh in Honesty, and Fisherrow in Steedie Falconer. After a close-run race in worsening seas, Honesty pipped Steedie on the line.

As well as the race, new rowers were given the opportunity to try coastal rowing. The new rowers were made up of local businesses who have sponsored Eskmuthe's regatta, members of the public and people from the club's lengthy waiting list.

Club chair, Simon Francis, said:

"It was great to see the club play a full part in the Harbour Festival this year. It's always a highlight of the year for the community."

"Now we are able to use our boatshed, we were also able to offer the space for use by the Festival organisers to arrange a quiet area for kids - and parents - who needed a bit of quiet time away from the action. It was great to see so many new people trying coastal rowing - and we will hopefully pick up a fair few new members as a result.

"As usual, club members rallied to help - not only in the try-outs but across the wider festival, with several Eskmuthers playing a leading role in the overall festival organisation and delivery. We can't wait for next year!"
