Four Seasons In One Race Day As Eskmuthe Take On Newhaven
Coastal rowing crews from Newhaven and Eskmuthe took to the waters off Fisherrow on for a lively series of friendly races — despite battling “four seasons in one afternoon.”
In challenging and often blustery conditions, the two clubs competed in a range of categories, with honours shared across the evening.
Eskmuthe Rowing Club came out on top in the 40+ Mixed, 40+ Women’s, and Open Mixed races, while Newhaven Coastal Rowing Club claimed victory in both the 50+ Women’s and 50+ Men’s events.
Additional races saw Eskmuthe crews from the Under 40 Mixed, 40+ Men’s, 60+ Mixed, and a composite “mash-up” team taking to the water. A much-anticipated face-off between Eskmuthe’s Open Women and Open Men crews was cancelled due to worsening weather.
“The conditions didn’t take away from a fantastic evening on the water,” said Simon Francis, Chair of Eskmuthe Rowing Club. “Huge congratulations to all the rowers from both clubs who braved the elements and gave it their all – it was a great display of coastal rowing spirit.”
Organisers also paid tribute to Fisherrow Yacht Club for their support, with the club lending a RIB to help keep race buoys in position during the event.
